Kathmandu: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has deployed a task force to assist in search, rescue, and relief operations across eight districts severely impacted by heavy rains. Coordinators from the task force commenced fieldwork on Wednesday morning, focusing on areas experiencing flooding and landslides.
Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadee announced that eight joint secretaries have been designated to oversee relief efforts in the affected districts: Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Sindhupalchok, and Dhading. Each district will have a dedicated coordinator responsible for managing the operations.
The appointed coordinators include:
- Kathmandu: Govinda Prasad Rijal
- Lalitpur: Prakash Paudel
- Bhaktapur: Narayan Prasad Aryal
- Kavre: Basudev Ghimire
- Sindhuli: Lalbabu Kawari
- Makwanpur: Rambandhu Subedi
- Sindhupalchok: Shyam Krishna Thapa
- Dhading: Ramesh Dhakal
The task force’s responsibilities include assessing the damage caused by the floods and landslides, recommending immediate actions, and coordinating repairs for affected roads. They will collaborate with local agencies to ensure safe accommodation and relief distribution for affected citizens.
The team comprises representatives from various ministries, including the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and is expected to submit a detailed report to the Ministry of Home Affairs by October 7.
In addition, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has deployed 10 section officers to the affected districts. ‘Action Team’ is operational in municipalities to facilitate the distribution of cash and material relief, while providing daily updates on the situation back to the central authorities.
