Kathmandu: The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, has concluded his highly anticipated two-day State Visit to Nepal, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations between the two nations. His departure from Nepal was marked by a grand farewell ceremony at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), where he was bid adieu by top Nepali dignitaries.
President Ramchandra Paudel led the delegation to bid farewell to the esteemed guest, underscoring the importance Nepal attaches to its ties with Qatar. Also in attendance were Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and other key officials from the Nepali government.
The departure ceremony was a testament to the warm relations shared between Qatar and Nepal, with a contingent of the Nepali Army offering a guard of honour and firing 21 cannon salvoes in honor of the visiting Emir.
During his stay, the Emir engaged in substantive discussions with President Paudel, aimed at deepening cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties. A banquet hosted by President Paudel further underscored the hospitality extended to the Qatari delegation.
Prime Minister Dahal also held crucial talks with the Emir, leading to the signing of a significant agreement and five memoranda of understanding spanning various areas of cooperation. These agreements pave the way for enhanced collaboration between the two countries in key sectors.
Notably, this visit marks the Emir’s first official trip to Nepal since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 1977. The opening of embassies in Doha and Kathmandu further solidifies the foundation of diplomatic engagement between Qatar and Nepal, ushering in a new era of cooperation and mutual benefit.
