Kathmandu: Costa Rica officially inaugurated its Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu, Nepal. The ceremony, held at the Garden of Dreams in Kathmandu last Tuesday, drew the presence of notable figures from various sectors.
The event was graced by Sofia Salas, ChargĂ© d’Affaires of Costa Rica to the Republic of India, and Dr. Manish Thapa, who has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Costa Rica in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Padam Giri, the Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs of Nepal, who presided over the event as the chief guest. Also present were parliamentarians, business leaders, honorary consuls, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Nepal.
During the ceremony, Minister Giri extended his congratulations to Honorary Consul Dr. Thapa on his new appointment. He expressed optimism that this diplomatic initiative would facilitate enhanced bilateral trade and investments between Nepal and Costa Rica. Minister Giri also commended Costa Rica’s global leadership in peace and environmental conservation, citing it as a model for Nepal to emulate.
Addressing the gathering, Sofia Salas emphasized the potential for the newly established Honorary Consulate to strengthen relations between Costa Rica and Nepal across various domains, including trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. She underscored the steady growth of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly 47 years ago, highlighting the recent visit of Former Prime Minister KP Oli to Costa Rica in September 2018 as a significant milestone in fostering closer relations.
In his remarks, Honorary Consul Dr. Manish Thapa expressed his commitment to fostering business and investment opportunities between Nepal and Costa Rica. He also emphasized the importance of cultural, educational, and people-to-people exchanges in deepening the bond between the two nations.
