Kathmandu: India has agreed to buy electricity from two more hydropower projects.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the Government of India has agreed to buy electricity from the 24.25 MW Kabeli B A and 19.4 MW Lower Modi project.
Earlier, India was buying 410 megawatts of electricity produced by eight hydropower projects. With India agreeing to buy electricity from two more projects, Nepal will now be able to sell 453 megawatts of electricity produced by 10 projects in the competitive market of Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IX).
Nepal has been selling excess electricity to India only during the dry season. But as India bought electricity only for limited projects, hundreds of megawatts of electricity was wasted during the drought.
With the onset of winter, Nepal has started buying electricity from India.
