35 Nepali youths rescued from captivity in Uttarakhand

Kathmandu: Thirty-five young Nepalis who were lured with promises of high-paying jobs and later held captive in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, have been rescued in a coordinated operation led by Indian authorities and facilitated by the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.

According to a statement issued by the embassy, the rescue was carried out on Asar 20 following directives from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The victims, hailing from various districts of Nepal, were reportedly subjected to physical abuse, torture, and extortion by their captors.

The operation was conducted with the support of Uttarakhand Police and local social organization ‘Kin India’. Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing to identify the full extent of the trafficking network.

The embassy also stated that efforts are continuing to trace and rescue more Nepali nationals believed to be held in other parts of Uttarakhand.

The rescued individuals will be brought back to Nepal after completing the required legal formalities in India.
