Kathmandu: A total of 203 Nepalis stranded in Kerung, China, following the July 8 Bhotekoshi floods have been safely repatriated through the Rasuwagadhi border on Wednesday.
The group, comprised mostly of drivers and their assistants, had been trapped after flooding from the Lhende River damaged the Nepal-China border customs point. The disruption left them unable to return home for more than two weeks.
The Chinese authorities escorted the stranded individuals to the Miteri Bridge, where Nepali officials, including Sindhupalchok Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa and security personnel received them. The returnees arrived in 20 buses arranged for the rescue.
The repatriation followed a formal request by the Nepali government to the Chinese side for assistance in facilitating their return.
