Study Committee’s recommendation to give two-day leave a week

Kathmandu: The study committee has recommended the government to grant public leave two-day a week. The committee was formed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) to study the issue of providing two-day leave.

The committee has recommended the government to grant public holidays for two days a week to encourage the private sector to do the same.

The study committee comprising Joint Secretary of MoCTCA, Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, Director General of the Department of Tourism, Rudra Singh Tamang, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board, Dhananjay Regmi, Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Basudev Ghimire, representative of Ministry of Finance and Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration Kavindra Nepal made the recommendation.

The committee made the recommendation after studying the international practice of public holidays and its impact on the country’s gross domestic product. At present, there is a practice of giving public holiday only on Saturday in Nepal. According to a study conducted by the committee, public holidays are given two days a week in 88 percent countries of the world.
