Nepali Congress leader Koirala passes away

Kathmandu: Former central member of Nepali Congress and founding mayor of Biratnagar, Ashok Koirala has passed away. Koirala, 77, who was also a member of the Constituent Assembly, died on Thursday.

Koirala had a heart problem. He was admitted to a neuro hospital with pneumonia. Koirala, who was admitted to the Neuro Hospital on Tuesday night due to respiratory problems, died at around 1 am.

A member of the Koirala family, Ashok is the brother of former Congress president and former prime minister Sushil Koirala. He was born in Biratnagar as the fifth child of father Bodh Prasad Koirala and mother Kumodini Koirala.

Leader Koirala became the president of Nepali Congress Morang in 2044 BS. Koirala, who has been active in politics for a long time, was not active in politics for some years due to health problems.

After his death, his body has been kept at a private residence at Biratnagar Metropolitan City-8. Leaders and cadres of the Nepali Congress, well-wishers and well-wishers and leaders and cadres of other parties have gathered at his residence to pay homage to Koirala. Koirala is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
