Nepal Telecom unveils own digital payment platform

Kathmandu: Nepal Digital Payment Company, a subsidiary of Nepal Telecom, has launched a digital payment service called Namaste Pay. In addition, users will now be able to make digital payments through Namaste Pay’s mobile app, website and USSD code. Due to the USSD code feature, users can make digital payments even when there is no access to the internet.

Not only this, for the first time in Nepal, Namaste Pay has introduced the facility of opening a wallet account and making payments even from a mobile that does not have internet. Users will be able to open a wallet account by dialing *500# as per the instructions received.

Up to Rs. 5,000 can be transacted from the account opened in this way. Apart from this, the mobile app has also been made public so that the Namaste Pay service can be used.

Currently available only on Android, the app will also be available on iOS in the next few weeks. The company’s website will also be ready for payment from Wednesday.

Currently, drinking water, electricity bill and mobile top-up can be tapped from Namaste Pay. For the time being, Nepal Telecom has only a top-up facility, so preparations are being made to add payment functions including Ncell and Smart Telecom to the app.

The company’s app also has features like a money transfer from wallet to wallet (from one Namaste Pay account to another Namaste Pay account), QR code payment, offline mode (a feature that can be paid from the app even when there is no internet).
