Melamchi water leakage in more than 300 places in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu: Old system of water distribution has increased Melamchi water leakage. According to the Division Roads Office, Kathmandu, more than 300 places in the Kathmandu Valley have been flooded due to burst pipes and waterlogging. Even the recently tarred roads have become potholes due to water leakage.

Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) has been distributing water from Melamchi. As per the office, it would cost more than Rs 10 million to repair the potholes in the valley roads due to the leakage of Melamchi water.

Even though small ditches were seen at the beginning, the ditches are getting bigger and the roads are getting worse now. The office said that the construction of the road has not been started as there is no point in repairing the road without repairing the broken pipes. It has been said that there may be a problem in adopting the old style in water distribution after repeated discussions, but the problem has arisen as the Melamchi Drinking Water Authority has taken it lightly.
