Kathmandu: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has said that it is necessary to expand the scope of tax collection and control leakage to increase the share of internal revenue in the overall revenue structure.

Speaking at the inauguration program of the Inland Revenue Office, Jorpati on the occasion of the Ninth National Tax Day, 2020, Finance Minister Poudel said that it is necessary to increase the overall revenue mobilization through voluntary tax participation.

He directed to strictly implement the methods of tax audit, tax investigation, market monitoring, administrative review, collection of arrears and non-compliance.

Finance Minister Poudel also directed to create an environment where minimum participation in tax participation, service-friendly behavior, simplification of procedures and full use of technology are made.

He directed the Inland Revenue Department and all its subordinate revenue offices to bring about a positive change in the attitude of the taxpayers towards tax administration and to improve the scope and reach of taxes.

Finance Minister Poudel expressed the view that a clean business relationship and mutual trust between the taxpayers and the tax administration would only contribute positively to the revenue mobilization and Tax Day would be helpful for this.

Stating that the revised revenue estimates for the fiscal year 2019/20 have been met despite the contraction in the economy due to the lockdown caused by the global Covid-19 epidemic and subsequent lockdown, Finance Minister Poudel thanked the taxpayers for contributing closer to the target by the first four months of the current fiscal year.

Finance Minister Poudel also mentioned that the Tax Day has enhanced the necessary knowledge and efficiency of the tax administration and also helped to motivate the tax administration to develop a fair service-seeker-friendly spirit and make it well-governed and transparent. Last day programs have been organized today under tax week.
