Kathmandu: Leaders and cadres of the Communist Party of Nepal-CPN-Prachanda-Nepal group have also been arrested in Birgunj this morning.
Police have arrested eight people, including Birgunj Municipal Corporation Chairman Rahabar Ansari, youth leader Arvind Singh and student leader Prabhakar Gupta, who took to the streets to make the strike a success.
Meanwhile, police have also arrested Ashtalakshmi Shakya, a leader and activist of the Prachanda-Madhav group in the Kathmandu Valley.
Leader Shakya has been arrested from Kalanki. Police and armed groups, including half a dozen leaders and activists of the general strike group, have taken Shakya under control.
Leaders and activists, including Shakya, were arrested when they took to the streets to make the strike a success.
Police have been taking under control the protesting cadres from different places in Kathmandu Valley since this morning. Some youths have also been arrested from Samakhsusi in the morning.
